DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel

What is the DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel?

The DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel is Blackmagic Design’s hardware control surface that has many of the functions and buttons mapped to DaVinci Resolve.

The reason why you would use a control surface in the first place is to enable you as a filmmaker or colorist to color grade your films more quickly and efficiently.

Through developing muscle memory you can quickly adjust contrast, color balance, curves, power windows and a whole other host of features.

Blackmagic Design has 3 hardware control surfaces that they manufacture. The Micro panel ($1,025), Mini panel ($2,995) and Advanced panel ($30,805 the one I use). You can kind of think of it as a good, better and best with each option offering more functionality than the other.

Should I buy a Mini Panel?

I think this totally depends upon your needs. If you are a Colorist or aspiring to be one without question you should have a panel and I would highly recommend the Mini.

If you are a production company or a one-man filmmaker it is not crucial. Though i will say if you handle all of your color grading and you handle A LOT of jobs then i give you permission to purchase a Mini panel.

If you don’t have the funds to purchase a Mini panel but still want the benefits of a control surface you might take a look at the Micro panel or the Wave II panel ($902.50) from Tangent.
